‘Smokin’
by Tomas
Here we have a cover shoot for Finnish figure skating magazine – Taitoluistelu. Our subject is Ari Pekka Nurmenkari, a professional Finnish figure skater. This is my third shoot with Ari-Pekka over the last year, we make a point out of having a laugh and a joke, trying to have as much fun we can while getting everything down and in the bag.
Just the way it should be ;The location for today, funnily enough, is indoors at Henrik Kettunen’s studio, the self same studio used for the Molla Mills shoot during the spring.
This is easily the most efficiently priced studio in town.
I can’t recommend this place enough, it has all the lighting, backdrops, reflectors, diffusers and grips you’ll need.
Lighting wise, a total of four Elinchrom FX-400 monoblocs were used for this shoot. The key light on camera left was diffused with a 65cm softbox, the backlight was coloured with a deep magenta gel and controlled with a honeycomb grid.
The rimlight over on camera right was also grided and so was the side light that picked up the smoke.
A huge thanks needs to go out to some very special folk, folk who I would be in serious trouble without:
Henrik Kettunen, his relentless help and kindness is always overwhelming.
Eero Jokimies, Kaisa Viitanen, Elina Paasonen and Jyrki Kostermaa, this ones for you guys. I can’t thank you all enough for both your friendship and your support.
