Maarit & Ville
by Tomas
Let me introduce todays lovely bride and groom - Maarit and Ville.
The weather could not have been better for our session in Lauttasaari, a very picturesque and ornate area 3 kilometres west of Helsinki city. A huge thnaks to the assistant of the day, Mr Sami K for being a really good sport and also pointing out the Lauttasaari would be an ideal location for us today.
So, I’m lucky in all respects today, great couple, great weather and also a great assistant. Perfect.
For today’s lighting, I opted for a single D4 head and Profoto AcuteB 600R diffused with a 170cm octabox boomed fairly high.
Maarit and Ville were both laughing about Ville’s ring, apparently the real ring was not yet available from the jeweller so he had to use a temporary ring that was a little on the comical side.
Cheers for such a good session folks.
A little behind the scenes, note that there is a 5 kilo counterweight on the boom:

The photos are beautiful. The background is amazing! Great job!
nice work!……so pleased I found these!…I dont see many 170 Octa location shots. I have been thinking about buying an Elinchrom Ranger Quadra “A” to use with a 170 Octa on location. It can be windy here in Scotland though!!
Cheers Lisa ;) Muchly appreciated.
Hi Gary,
I have a good friend with a Quadra, we often shoot together so I get the chance to use it quite regularly.
The Quadra is indeed a great unit but it’s major selling point is how compact and lightweight it is rather than offering a more capable/flexible output in varying conditions. When using the Quadra as a key light, we tend to use smaller diffusers and light much closer.
The AcuteB 600R was nearly at full power here and I could have used a little extra in all honesty.
How about an Elinchrom Ranger pack as an alternative option?
In terms of price, the difference is minimal and the capability is far greater.
