Episode I: Workshop Results

Over a course of five evenings, I took a handful of delightful photographers each night to Suomenlinna, (a beautiful sea fortress on an island off the coast of Helsinki city) and then demonstrated how to use a hotshoe flash to light a environmental/location based portrait.
There was a brief but detailed explanation of the equipment, how to put it all together and operate it. I chose the most common and also the simplest of hotshoe set ups to get these folks started. Then with guidance, the ‘ball’ was passed over to our workshoppers to get their hands on the kit and cut their teeth.

During the five evenings spent at Suomenlinna, I had a variety of experience levels, from total beginners to full time shooters. It was a really refreshing experience to be in the company of so many that share the same passions and interests.
