Dubber

Representing a little excursion toward the prestigious Sibelius Monument near the sea, a fitting scene for my pal here, Dubber is Reader in Music Industries Innovation at Birmingham City University. He’s a member of the Centre for Media and Cultural Research, and is an internationally-renowned lecturer, author, consultant, public speaker, broadcaster and blogger. His research interests include digital media cultures, online music enterprise, and music as culture. Dubber is the founder of New Music Strategies and Music Think Tank, is a board member of Un-Convention, and is a member of the board of advisors for Bandcamp. His free e-book ‘The 20 Things You Must Know About Music Online‘ is required reading for musicians and independent music businesses.

Dubber and I have met through Clutch Daisy, a very good and long time mate of mine who was kind enough to pay me a visit during the earlier and far colder parts of this year.

Time has been a little sparse for us, Dubber is primarily here for a series of conferences on Jazz, tours of archives and general hob-nobbing with musically active folk. However, we have managed to squeeze in a few small trips that involve a little local cuisine, sampling Finnish beers and sipping a Dalmore Mackenzie at midnight in a lovely park near the sea in Töölönlahti.

Lighting-wise we decided to travel as light as possible but also having the capability to take on the bright early evening sun. My favoured Profoto AcuteB 600R with D4 Head, a 90cm softbox and Pocket Wizard Plus II triggers.

Here’s a very brief behind the scenes flick taken before a coach load of tourists arrived:

We are conspiring to indulge in some kind of Finnish tour next summer, stay tuned for further details…
