Totally off the cuff, collaborative improvisational shoot with my right hand man, Jouni Ranta. Say hello to our firey subject – Saukki of Tulikansa, a gang of entertainers juggling, breathing and parading with fire since 1998.
It’s been a fair few years since I set foot on English soil and even longer since I have been in North Wales, a place where I spent most summer holidays as a child. Mom and Dad bought a static caravan in the mid 80′s and my last visit there must have been in the mid to later 90′s. The initial purpose for this recent visit was primarily to scatter my Nan & Grandad’s ashes in the tranquil meadows of Parc Farm caravan site in Penybontfawr.
It was a wonderful family reunion which surpassed all expectations.
A huge thanks to Jenni and Veera for such a job well done, the skies opened up on us a fair few times during our session but we all emerged victoriously!
Shooting a lovely 1 year old bundle of mischief, a very new experience for me. I’m aware of the golden saying ‘Never work with kids or animals’, I’ve done a few shoots with animals before but not a 1 year old toddler.
I had a really good time with the family, but being honest I had the easy job, The parents had the tough part chasing after this little one and bringing her back on set, the speed this little girl could clock in the bat of an eye was astonishing!
This studio based workshop prepares, introduces and familiarises the photographer with the environment, the equipment and several core lighting plans that will offer a strong knowledge base to shoot professional portraits.
All experience levels from beginner, novice, student through to amateur or professional are all welcome.
This is a ‘hands dirty’ workshop so all who attend will have the opportunity to shoot their own pictures during the evening.
There will be an professional model and stylist on the crew for this workshop, the example images will be shot tethered to a 17″ laptop running dual displays, 24″ screen plus iPad via Lightroom 3 and Air Display.

Here I am shooting some headshots and location portraits for Otaverkko, a quality Finnish company that provides data backup, server maintenance, hosting and varying internet services. A huge thanks to my new client Petri, a thoroughly wonderful gentleman with outstanding skills and presence.
Okay, okay, I admit that there is just a teensie weensie hangover this morning, it could possibly have something to do with Finland taking both the gold and the silver but it could also have something to do with the very nice party we had round at my place after the event. The gallon of Blue Whale cocktail is now just a small jar sitting in the fridge :S
What can I say? The weekend was simply wonderful and a fair amount of thankyou’s will now follow.
Huge thanks to Nikon Finland for endorsing the event, our OC photo crew was each equipped with the state of the art flagship camera bodies with accompanying fast glass.
An enormous round of applause to STLL and the Taitoluistelu team and a ma-hoosive thanks to Elina Paasonen for organising the photo operations in the most maticulate and professional manner I have experienced to date. Another huge thanks is due to my good buddies Jyrki Kostermaa and Sari Niskanen. We really had a great team.
Meet Leslie Hyde, Jonathan Hutchings and Frank Boyle.
Easily some of the most interesting blokes I have met in a good while.
Jon, Les and Frank were former performers in The Finn Brit Players before they began touring “Sketch On The Rocks”, a comedy sketch show in connection with ECT (English Theatre Company) during the 90′s, gathering a cult status in pubs and clubs throughout Finland.
Myself and my good buddy Jouni teamed up to shoot a real life Angel! Now how’s about that! Finally the time has become clear to begin drawing the initial plans for ‘Episode II: A Studio Workshop’. Angel had kindly agreed to be our model for the R+D for the workshop content.
